Funny how people disappear the moment you stop holding the door open for them. It’s not even malicious - they just assumed it was automatic, like a motion sensor that always lights up for them. You say “no” once, or simply stop giving more than you get, and suddenly you’re “different.” I’ve learned that’s not loss - it’s a filter. The ones still standing on the other side of the door are there because they knocked, not because they expected it to swing wide on its own.
